A Tribute to Steve Davis

By Lynn Sumida

Steve Davis was one of the founders of miruspoint Facilitators Inc. and instrumental in the development of the the Prime Potential® Facilitator Training Program. We were colleagues and friends for almost 30 years and his human presence is deeply missed by all who knew him. The fact that he is no longer here to physically to share his wisdom, wit and deep compassion in no way diminishes his enormous contribution to all that he was involved in.

A significant part of the Prime Potential® process is founded on the amazing technology of Neuro-Linguistic programming (NLP), which Steve fell in love with in the late 1970s. As NLP evolved, so did Steve's use and application of it. Prime Potential® is a living example of this evolution. It is paramount to me to pay tribute to Steve's major contribution. I know Steve would be thrilled that his work and life’s passion continues to live on in this Training and the work that each Facilitator contributes to the world.

Steve's background included a Ph.D. in Social Psychology (Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois), twenty-seven years of successful family counselling practice, and seminal involvement with Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). Steve delivered NLP certification courses across Canada and in Hong Kong, Taiwan, New Zealand, and Mexico. He also served on the Board of Directors of the International NLP Association and delivered keynote addresses at conferences in both Canada and New Zealand.

During the 1970s and 80s at the University of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Steve served as Professor of Psychology, Acting Chair of the Department, and Adjunct Professor of Psychology.

In addition to his flourishing counselling practice, Steve branched into the business sector in 1990. He co-founded and functioned as a trainer in two successful international training companies. Steve's passion for travel and his avid interest in expanding the boundaries of possibility took him from Canada to Hong Kong, Taiwan, Australia and New Zealand to share his multi-faceted perspectives with organizations in both private and public sectors. Steve’s areas of expertise included team development, stress management, conflict resolution, and enhancing individual potential.

In all Steve did, he operated with precision, sensitivity, and kindness while being energized by a creative and quirky sense of humour, as well as an ever-present desire to learn and share his passions. If you would like to contribute to Steve's legacy you can do so through the Steve Davis Scholarship Fund. We look forward to hearing from you.
