Amnesty International USA’s Women’s Human Rights Coordination Group seeks new members to join our team of skilled, dedicated women’s human rights defenders.

The Women's Human Rights Coordination Group works closely with AIUSA staff to advance the global protection of women's human rights. The Coordination Group divides duties among the members of the group, and these include:

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Monitoring – The Co-group serves as key monitors and experts on women’s human rights. As such, members of the co-group are responsible for routinely monitoring the political and human rights situation concerning women’s rights and having a solid understanding of AI’s specific concerns pertaining to women’s rights.
• Strategy building – The co-group is responsible, in collaboration with other volunteers and staff, for developing and implementing action strategies for AIUSA’s work in women’s human rights. The co-group participates in strategy development at international, section, and local levels. Such strategies may utilize an array of action forms including casework, campaigns, country or thematic projects, rapid or crisis responses. The co-group should be conversant in numerous tactics, which may include media engagement, US and foreign government advocacy, corporate engagement, shareholder activism, outreach to relevant professions, émigré groups or other stakeholders, and participation in coalitions or multi-stakeholder initiatives.
• Campaigns and Crisis Response – The Co-group plays a key role in the development and implementation of relevant campaigns, including women’s human rights defenders and other individuals at risk . Their roles include crafting actions for the Women’s Human Rights Action Network as well as for members, supporters, and activists across the nation.
• Women’s Human Rights Action Network – The Co-group supports a network of groups and individual members who carry out ongoing work related to women’s human rights. This Action Network is developed both within and outside our current activist base and is an opportunity to facilitate women’s human rights work and discussion and grow the movement.
• Media and Social Media – The Co-group serves as official spokespersons for AIUSA concerning women’s human rights and responds to and initiates media coverage on women’s human rights. This includes both domestic and international print, TV, radio, and internet outlets. The co-group is responsible for maintaining the Women’s Rights pages on the AIUSA website and for crafting online actions. The co-group is also responsible for blogging and maintains a Facebook page and Twitter feed.
• Working With Other Human Rights Organizations – The co-group seeks to develop and maintain contacts with their counterparts in other human rights organizations, solidarity groups or other stake-holders in women’s rights work.
• General assistance to AIUSA members – The Co-group provides general assistance, information, and promotion of women’s human rights to AIUSA members seeking to work on women’s rights issues.

REQUIREMENTS

• Must live in the United States
• Minimum two-year commitment
• Attend SDPAC trainings and meetings as scheduled (travel expenses covered by AI)
• Engaged and responsive
