CLEVELAND AREA HOSPITAL is an independent, self-managed Critical Access Hospital half an hour west of Tulsa, Oklahoma. As the only hospital in Pawnee County, we are constantly striving to provide the highest level of care by continuously growing and updating our services and equipment. Our facilities include a level IV Trauma Center/ ER, Skilled Nursing/Swing Bed program, Respiratory Therapy, C.T., 3D Mammography, a fully equipped Outpatient Rehabilitation Center, 24/7 Lab, and a Primary Care Clinic. The organization is a Regional Healthcare Provider in its 10th year of consistent leadership. POSITION SUMMARY:

The Patient Transporter is responsible for the safe, timely, and efficient movement of patients and essential equipment within the hospital. Working under the supervision of clinical staff, the transporter ensures patients are transferred between departments- such as imaging, laboratory, respiratory therapy and patient rooms with compassion and respect.

This role requires effective communication, attention to safety protocols, and a commitment to patient care. The transporter collaborates closely with nursing staff, physicians, and other members of the healthcare team to support overall hospital operations and enhance the patient experience.

The Patient Transporter must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care and is expected to adhere to and abide by policies of Cleveland Area Hospital.

PRINCIPAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Patient Duties:

  1. Transports patients from the Registration area to the appropriate department.
  2. Assist patients from their car as requested utilizing safe handling techniques.
  3. Assist with transporting patients from ED to Cat Scan if necessary.
  4. Escort visitors from Registration/lobby area to appropriate room, ensuring proper check in has occurred.
  5. Assists Nursing Staff with locating and retrieving needed equipment.
  6. Acts as a liaison between Staff and family members in times of crisis.
  7. Uses good communication skills to interact with patients, families, and team members.
  8. Assist all team members by being a patient advocate, resource, and contact person for patients.
  9. Demonstrates an ability to remain calm, perform effectively and professionally during peak periods of activity and emergency situations.
  10. Other duties as required.

  1. Participates in training, orientation, competency assessment and education of new employees.
  2. Communicates clearly, concisely, and accurately, creating a working climate that promotes growth and job satisfaction of personnel.
  3. Communicates with Interdisciplinary Departments. effectively.
  4. Uses effective positive reinforcement and other methods to enhance team performance.
  5. Arrives on time, works scheduled shifts and clocks in and out appropriately.
  6. Other duties as required.
  • Administrative Duties:
  1. Adhere to all policies of the organization, including (but not limited to) job description, mission statement, HIPAA, confidentiality standards and patient’s rights.
  2. Actively engage and stay up to date with organization’s communications and directives.
  3. Acts in a professional manner, reflecting the mission of Cleveland Area Hospital and demonstrates compliance with all policy, procedures, and state/federal regulations.
  4. Demonstrates ongoing service excellence skills.
  5. Participates in performance improvement activities as required.
  6. Demonstrates ongoing understanding and supports corporate strategic initiatives.
  7. Participates in meeting, education and demonstrates genuine desire to develop strategies for improved operation for a higher level of patient care.
  8. Other duties as required.

EDUCATIONAL/SKILLS REQUIRED:

  1. High School diploma or equivalent
  2. BLS
  3. Able to handle multiple priorities

EXPERIENCE:

One year preferred

RESPONSIBILITY FOR CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION:

This position could have access to patient confidential records and must comply with HIPAA regulations as well as Cleveland Area Hospital Policies.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Frequent lifting patients/assisting with transfers. Primarily standing, sometimes sitting. Utilize good hearing, vocal and visual skills. Exposure to toxic, chemicals and detergents. Exposure to moving mechanical parts. Exposure to potential electrical shock. Exposure to x- ray/electromagnetic energy. Exposure to communicable diseases. Exposure to blood and/or body fluids. Exposure to latex rubber. May be exposed to communicable diseases.
